F Your Diet (Austria)!
The first in a regular series about food we had eaten in the places we visited (excludes any that were already included in previous posts). A thing to note about Austrian cooking. There are two cuisines: the refined and sophisticated Viennese style and the hearty unfussy stick-to-your-ribs kind.
Frittatensuppe, sliced savory pancake served in broth.Backhendl, Austrian fried chicken.Erdapfelsalat, Austrian Potato Salad. No mayonnaise here.Speckknodels, dumplings with bacon (speck).Traditional erdapfelknodels, potato dumplings.Wurstsalat, sausage salad.Austrian beef Goulash.Homemade Apfelstrudel.Fruchttorte (front) and world-famous Sachertorte (rear) at the Hotel Sacher. Cups of Wiener Melange (coffee) to top it all off.Not hundred percent sure what kind of cake it was but we are going to go with Kirschtorte.Mokkatorte? Whatever it is, it was delicious. We are calling this one Apfeltorte because we don’t remember but it tasted like apples. To help with digestion, no meal is complete without an after-dinner schnapps.
