The first stop on the tour was the hilltop hamlet of Monteriggioni. The fortified town itself is minuscule, with less than 50 residents. To put things into perspective, some shopping malls in America are twice or even three times its size.
As we approached the Porta Franca gate from the parking lot, it seemed inconceivable to me that such a tiny place could possibly even exist and yet it did.
