A Traviel Pursuit

A personal chronicle of our travels inspired by a global pandemic…

Raison d’etre (“Reason for being”)…

We had three reasons why we chose Avignon. The First, it was on the very western edge of Provence and could perhaps offer us a different flavor of the region. For almost seventy years, from 1309 to 1377, the city was the home to a succession of popes; a “satellite” office of the Vatican in France you could call it. Surely, there would be no end to the sites and attractions in the home turf of the Servant of the Servants of God. Second, it was a stop on the TGV line, the high-speed train to Paris, our next port-of-call. We could also return our rental car at the train station. And last and most superficial of all, we could say we had been to Avignon, emphasis on the French palatal nasal “ng” of course.
