Nowhere do the three concepts better converge than in the peculiarly-named Generalife (jannat al-arif or “Garden of the (holy) Architect” in Arabic). The Generalife is the summer palace/country estate of the Nasrid rulers and overlooks The Alhambra to the south. This is where the emir would escape from the rigors of courtly life. In keeping with the idea of a getaway, the structures are more austere than their ochre-hued counterpart, the vistas more prominent, the layout less cloistered.
